Introducing the Tailored Marketing Inc. Staff Spotlight series! Get to know each of the TMI staff members. In this month’s installment, learn all about our Digital Marketing Manager, Rachel.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do for Tailored Marketing?
My title at Tailored Marketing is Digital Media Manager, so the short version is that I spend most of my day managing all of the social, and digital content for our clients.
What is it about social media and digital strategy that you find so exciting?
One of the most interesting things about social media and digital promotion is how fast it can change. Some of the platforms we use the most today weren’t around 10, 15 years ago. Technology is always improving and how we utilize it is always changing. Trying to keep up with trends and stay relevant on the platforms that your audience uses most creates a challenge that keeps this job exciting.
What is your favorite social media channel for marketing businesses?
Facebook is always a safe bet for businesses that want to start advertising on social media, but I would have to say Instagram is my personal favorite for promoting products. Especially if you are targeting a younger demographic, 53% of teens say that Instagram is the best platform to tell them about new products.
Where do you see the future of digital marketing heading?
I think in the midst of all the scandals surrounding digital media companies this year, people are starting to pay more attention to how honest companies are being when they advertise online. Because of this, I think transparency and candidness with consumers will be a big trend. We have all become hyper aware of being sold to. Companies have to be mindful of that and try to build relationships with their customers and offer value instead of going for the quick sell. I also see video becoming a bigger and bigger part of digital marketing, especially shorter videos because our attention spans are shrinking.
If you could only use one social media app for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why?
I think I would definitely have to pick Instagram. I enjoy seeing my friends photos without all of the drama that Facebook tends to come with.
If you were an Instagram influencer, which brand(s) would you want to partner with?
Haha, I just got a glimpse of myself promoting those classic Instagram brands like FitTea or that curling iron that looks like a straightener. In all seriousness, I would probably pick a camera brand like Nikon or Polaroid in hopes that they would send me to cool places to take photos.
If you could compare yourself to any animal, which would it be?
I don’t know if I would compare myself to this animal, but if I could be any animal I think I would choose to be a sea turtle so I could live on a beautiful beach.
What is your go-to jam that maximizes productivity?
Picking one song is always so hard. This is kind of funny, but everytime Sabotage by the Beastie Boys comes on my Spotify at work I usually turn it up and feel like I’m ready to get stuff done.
If you could have dinner with anyone – dead or alive – who would it be and why?
Whenever someone asks me that question I always think I want to eat with my family, my parents and my brother. Even though we get dinner all the time, my brother and I are both getting older and starting our adult lives. I always think I could never have enough dinners with them. This answer might kinda break the rules of this question, but that is what I’m going with.
What TV or movie character would you compare yourself most to?
I would like to say that I am like Rachel from Friends but let’s be honest I’m Chandler…
